Growing Up the Blog

We started our blog about our new company, SOFTA Ventures, on wordpress.com, which is where I am currently writing this addition.  But the more we use it, and the more we learn,  we have come to the realization that in order to use the blog effectively we are going to have to take control of it within our own domain.

So beginning today I am starting the process of moving our softamobile.com domain from under the umbrella of wordpress.com to our own hosting site.  After that it will be figuring out how to set up our wordpress based blog there, fortunately it is a supported host so that eases the burden.  A supported host is one where the wordpress software is a utility available in your domain control panel.  No need to get the installation file form wordpress.  Installing should be easy, we’ll see.

Think the real challenge will be migrating the data from wordpress.com to our site.  Hoping there is enough on-line support to make this fairly painless.

We’ll see.

Building a Blog

Spent the last two weeks working on building up this blog site. Finally getting it to the point where we are satisfied with the look and feel.

Hopefully when we are done we’ll be able to communicate what we are working on, and the status, along with the frustrations, successes, and fun of a new product.

Took a big step toward moving our product development along in an organized manner by engaging Ed Gray to help in the product design phase. Ed is helping us to layout our iPhone screens, and detail the functionality. Should make it much easier for coding. If nothing else we have learned from all of our past software endeavors the importance of an upfront design doc.

And of course Larry continues to keep his business development hat charged up. He has two more products conceptualized for us to begin the design phase, once our current design moves into coding.

All in all it’s Wednesday and we’ve already gotten a weeks worth of work done. Nice to see the operation picking up some momentum.

Starbucks and Mobility

Its always amazing to me how it is possible now to work from just about anywhere. I am sitting in a small public square in our town. I am about 50 feet from Starbucks and through their WIFI and my ATT account, I am working on our company website and blog. Its great.
